The Phantom On Social Media
Fernando Bustamante Manjavacas is a Spanish conductor whose career embraces symphonic repertoire, opera and musical theatre. He makes his West End debut as Musical Director of Phantom of the Opera.
He studied orchestral conducting in Spain before completing a Master's degree with distinction at the International Conducting Academy of the Universität der Künste in Berlin. He has since been invited to masterclasses with Daniele Gatti and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Robin Ticciati and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester.
Since 2011, Fernando has served as Music and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Ciudad de la Mancha, founding the international Arte Entre Gigantes course and festival. He has conducted orchestras throughout Europe and Latin America, including the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Orquesta Sinfónica de Extremadura, Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, Joven Orquesta de Costa Rica or Orquesta Nacional del Ecuador among others.
His commitment to new music includes premieres of contemporary works with Ensemble Ilynx (Berlin) at some of Germany's leading festivals.
In musical theatre, he has conducted Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita and The Wizard of Oz, and composed his own original musical Clown, with book by José Andrés López de la Rica.
An accomplished mandolinist, Fernando won Second Prize at the Luxembourg International Mandolin Competition, and has performed and toured internationally across Europe, Latin America and the United States. He regularly collaborates as a soloist with the Orquesta Nacional de España, Ballet Nacional de España or Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid.
